Throughout my career, I’ve experienced the profound impact of meaningful conversations. Engaging with individuals who offer wisdom, diverse perspectives, and constructive feedback has consistently brightened my day and enriched my understanding of myself.

From the beginning of my journey in a consulting firm, the mentor-mentee dynamic created a supportive environment where I could connect openly with others. Even after a decade, I maintain regular contact with mentors who have become true friends, fostering relationships that extend beyond professional ties.

Recently embarking on a new career chapter, I’ve encountered challenges typical of transitions—learning new business dynamics, adapting to cultural shifts, and balancing personal and professional responsibilities. Engaging in mentoring conversations within my new network has been empowering, providing invaluable insights and strengthening my ability to navigate these challenges effectively.

These mentoring relationships have been instrumental in my journey, shaping my perspectives and contributing significantly to my ongoing development.

I will use this space to summarize key highlights and share my as-is perspective for further review.

When I was struggling with the impact of the consulting firm, I received the suggestion to dive deep into industry implementation and complement my business skills with a strong understanding of technology. In terms of international exposure, I was encouraged to broaden my perspective beyond my experience in Asian markets to include Western countries, from Europe to America.

After joining a senior team in a large corporation, I faced challenges in finding my place. The differing pace of delivery added to my frustration in providing value. One senior leader, with experience transitioning from consulting to corporate, offered inspiring advice: listen, observe, and figure out how to complement the team instead of solely focusing on unique selling points. Building a reliable reputation within the network is essential for success. When making decisions and setting priorities, it’s crucial to consider the value to both customers and the company, instead of putting personal benefits at the center.

Similar advice from experienced HR leaders emphasizes that building a personal brand occurs gradually through deep project involvement. Simultaneously, focusing on developing personal strengths fosters confidence. In social conversations, prioritizing main topics over trying to connect every aspect promotes meaningful exchanges.

Reflecting on the wisdom shared by a board member — “The success of a career is far easier than the success of a marriage.” — reminds me of the true sources of happiness in life. For me, my family stands as an unwavering energy source. As we navigate through life’s numerous projects, the relationships with our partners, parents, and children require courage to embrace life’s uncertainties.

Looking forward, I am eager to continue exploring new avenues for growth and learning. My journey thus far has taught me the importance of embracing change, seeking mentorship, and fostering meaningful connections. These principles will undoubtedly guide my future endeavors as I strive to make a positive impact in both my professional community and personal life.

Thank you for joining me on this journey of reflection and growth.
